TOC/COTC BIS List

August 30, 2009 at 11:21 am (Disc Priests, Holy Priests) (, , , , )

Ok, I added my full list of gear that would benefit a priest.  I was working on BIS gear, when I realized there’s already a site with a very good list.  So, instead of re-inventing the wheel, I’ll just put the link in here.

Holy Priest

Disc Priest

This is a site I visit regularly to keep myself up to date, so if you don’t already have it as one of your bookmarks, you definitely should.  Great site!

(PS: he’s much more mathy about the gear, so beware the big numbers if you don’t like them)

Loot List for 3.2

August 9, 2009 at 12:37 pm (Disc Priests, Holy Priests) (, , , , , , , , )

I’ll be working on a BIS loot list based on each part of 3.2 encounters.  10-man, 10-man Heroic, 25-man, 25-man Heroic.

This will hopefully supply you with a well-rounded list of items to look for.  I’m already very excited about a few of the items I’ve spied.

I have compiled a list of gear that looks to be as up to date as I can get it.  This is ALL possible loot, not BIS.  It’s also the loot from COTC ONLY – not overall BIS.  You can analyze which stats you want and work from there.

Call of the Crusade Gear List for Priests

You will need to make an account on Google to be able to view the spreadsheet.

My next endeavor will be to analyze the gear and make a BIS list based on the content.  I can already tell you that some of the Ulduar items will come in to play, so be aware when you’re making a list of your own to look back at the Ulduar BIS list.

Thanks!

Ok, discussion time!

Holy Priests need 3 main components: Spirit, SP & haste (crit & haste interchangeable depending on spec – I’m analyzing my spec).  Secondary priorities are to crit & int.

  1. Haste should be capped around 15% (mine’s currently 15%)
  2. Spirit should be around 1.4k (mine’s currently 1212 :( )
  3. Crit should be capped around 25% (mine’s currently 20% :( )
  4. Spellpower be 2.5k+ (mine’s currently 2527)
  5. Intellect should be 1k+ (mine’s currently 1141)

Why these stats? The holy priest’s main job is to heal the RAID & heal it quickly.  This is why talents like serendipity & test of faith are key for a holy priest raid heal spec.  Spirit is a key component as it helps with our mp5 (w/procs like Holy Concentration) and our Spell Power (talent Spiritual Guidance – 25% spirit = spell power).  Again, the goal is to be efficient, but holy priests need a TON of throughput.  Their job is to get people up FAST.  Priority should be spell power.  After that spirit, then haste.  Speed is a balance though.  I was up to 18% at one point & that was killing my mana pool too quickly.  Dropped it down to 15% & seems to have a good balance.  Lastly, crit is a very important stat too (esp. if your spec requires you to crit a lot – Surge of Light/Tank heal spec is rather important for mana effeciency).

Most of my items and itemization are easily understood.  Sometimes I feel lost in the holy gemming/spec/itemization.  I seem to have found a balance that works well for me, but there’s SOOO much out there for holy.  Holy priests have such versatility that you could have 4 holy priests in a raid & they all could have different “jobs”.  One is a POH raid healer, one is a renewer, one could be a tank healer & the last could be a spot healer.  I have performed all jobs & prefer to renew/spot heal the best as holy.

Recently I made some changes on my Holy gear.  The biggest is my weapon change.  The Lifebinder seems to be a “holy” weapon, where Rapture seems to be a “disc” weapon, based on their bonuses.  However, after careful consideration, I was able to have more flexibility with Rapture in my holy set.  With the crit on the weap, I can use more gear that has haste.  Also, if you look at the static stats of both weapons, you’ll notice that Lifebinder has very LOW spirit (for a staff) and Rapture has very HIGH spirit.  Again, holy priests do benefit from spirit, so easy choice – more spirit = more mp5 & sp for holy; while the Lifebinder had slightly more int & the haste allows for creativity with other gear choices in disc.
